UN HURACÀ AVANÇA ALEGREMENT

Jonc, a boy with an intellectual diversity, reaches adulthood. For his mother, the creator Susanna Barranco, this moment is an invisible boundary, a turning point, a decisive moment which will shake everything up, just like a hurricane. Susanna and Jonc are onstage. Mother and son. A hurricane that advances joyfully.

It is a show under Ànima Lliure, in partnership with the Fundació Banc Sabadell.


"When I think of Un huracà avança alegrement, I can’t help but find myself at that very fragile and decisive moment: the instant in which Jonc, my intellectually diverse son, comes of age. I live it as an invisible border, a step that not only marks its future, but also shakes everything we are and everything we believe to understand about desire, intimacy, freedom, and autonomy.
With him and through him, I find myself wondering what it really means to decide for myself. Not only in a legal sense, but from a deep, intimate place: being able to feel, want, explore one’s body and relationships without fear, without imposed filters. I realize that the body becomes a territory full of contradictions - fragile and powerful at the same time -, constantly crossed by the gaze of others, which often limits more than accompanies.
This journey is not only yours, but also mine. I am taking part in it from a very personal place, marked by the experience of motherhood. I wonder again what it means to be the mother of a person with diversity, what it means to love from this place so intense, so demanding.
This project, in which I share the stage with my son, has grown up listening to many other voices, sharing experiences with diverse people of different ages and identities. This has opened our eyes, it has made us understand that this history is not only ours, but collective. Which deals with all the people who, in one way or another, have felt that they do not fit together at all."
