SESSION 3
Encounter with the Other: Beyond Walls, War or Dialogue

The journalist Ryszard Kapuscinski said that throughout history Humanity has constantly fluctuated between three reactions to the unknown: walls, war and dialogue. However, the Polish writer also
acknowledged that there are occasions when people discover that they carry a fragment of the Other within themselves. How do we open these cracks to see an opportunity for a shared life in otherness through the stage and artistic practice?

The playwright, actress and psychologist Lara Díez Quintanilla, founder of the companies La Volcànica and retreTTeatre and author of works including Omplint el buit (La Gleva, 2019), Les oblidades
(Teatre Akadèmia, 2019) and La nostra parcel·la  (Teatre Lliure, 2020) talks to the playwright Ahmed Ghazali (Casablanca, 1964), the author of works including Tombuctú, 52 días a camello (Icaria, 2005) and Le mouton et la baleine (Théâtrales, Paris, 2001), and co-founder of Associació Jiwar, the International residency for urban creativity researchers.

SESSION 4
Are Fascists Always Other People?

Is authoritarianism and its representations an attribute, an adjective or a condition? Is appealing to truth and beauty and antidote or a trap? Within which mental framework has dogmatism mutated so we cannot distinguish it for what it is?

The writer and film director David Trueba, author of books including Abierto toda la noche (1995), Cuatro amigos (1999), Saber perder (2008) and Tierra de campos (2017), all of which were published by Anagrama, wonders what a tyranny without tyrants would be like in a world that is certainly imbued with solidarity and tenderness but in which growing individualism and inertia could lead us to  design business in a manner that goes against the collective interest.

The space for dialogue, criticism and debate organised by Teatre Lliure and led by Marina Garcés and Albert Lladó continues, using the tools of dramaturgy and philosophy to address the great conflicts of the present day.
