Carlota Soldevila Creation Grants

Carlota Soldevila Creation Grants

To commemorate the centenary of the birth of the actress and founder of the Lliure Carlota Soldevila, we began the Artistic Residencies Programme which bears her name in June 2019.
For the 21/22 Season, the programme retains its commitment to opening up the concept of authorship to any theatrical artist, and to supporting the younger generations in order to promote collective creation and living authorship on four types of residency.

The Carlota Soldevila grants are possible thanks to the partnership between the Theatre and the Fundació Banc Sabadell.

Modalities

  • Resident artist and Resident company

The Teatre Lliure selects an artist and a company for each one to carry out a newly created project over a season. It supports innovative projects arising from experimentation, collective creation and networking with different areas of society. This means the Lliure opens up to artists who have never been there before, and it supports creative processes embracing time, analysis, exchange and error. The projects by the resident artists and companies may end up becoming a theatrical première or be presented as a work in progress at one or more stages of the process.

  • Resident artist and Resident company

Every season, Teatre Lliure organises a creative exchange residency with a different international cultural institution linked to a different city. This year the collaboration is with CAMPO in Ghent, an arts centre with a diverse programme ranging from theatre, dance and performance to festivals, neighbourhood kitchens and debates.

Through an open call for applications, open to people living in Catalonia or the rest of Spain who are linked in some way to the performing arts, the two teams will select two artists with research projects in tangential areas of the performing arts that can be nourished by the interaction between the two cities. It is valued that the projects raise cultural, academic and social aspects that can generate activities in these three axes, in relation to the work to be carried out. The two artists spend a month in residence hosted by the other team, and at the end of the two stays there is an open session on the process at the Lliure.

  • Creadors EN RESiDÈNCiA [Creators in residence]

The Teatre Lliure acts as a mediator in the programme Creadors en RESiDÈNCiA. Creadors als instituts de Barcelona [Creators in RESIDENCE. Creators in Barcelona's secondary schools], which aims to introduce contemporary creative processes to public secondary schools in Barcelona involving an artist's direct and continuous contact with the students. In an open call, an artist is selected to undertake a project that must involve weekly interaction with the adolescents, and which is consistent with the programme of the Lliure. There is a session in the Espai Lliure which is open to the public at the end of the process.
